The DGBM’s Young Scientists Forum (YSF) acts as a voice for all early-career researchers in the field of biomaterials (up to seven years after defending their PhD thesis) who are registered as members of the DGBM. It aims to provide a space for interdisciplinary exchange and to help forge new connections
To coordinate the YSF’s activities, the YSF Board comprises a team of dedicated early-career researchers, listed here.

The forum is specifically tailored to the interests of young scientists. To this end, we organise our own sessions at the DGBM Annual Meetings, which offer early-career researchers a broad platform to present their findings.
We also specifically invite speakers to address various interdisciplinary (‘soft skills’) and innovative specialist topics. These talks are tailored specifically to early-career researchers, but are of course open to all participants at the DGBM Annual Meeting.
The YSF Board is in direct contact with the DGBM Executive Committee and has its support.
As international networking is also close to our hearts, we are constantly striving to expand and strengthen our cooperation with partner organisations such as the YSF of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB).
As part of the YSF Board, you can get involved in organising various events. Please send an email to ysf.dgbm@gmail.com
or speak to us at the next annual conference during the YSF session.
If you’d like to stay up to date with what’s happening in the world of biomaterials in Germany and internationally, why not follow our LinkedIn channel and get the latest news.

Dear members of the DGBM!
We would like to invite all interested early-career researchers to actively participate in the DGBM’s Young Scientists Forum, which we would like to revive. The Young Scientists Forum (YSF) provides a platform within the DGBM for representing the interests of early-career researchers, interdisciplinary exchange and joint research projects. An initial meeting will take place in Erlangen on 5 December 2019 [...].
The aim of this event is to define the forum’s objectives and tasks, including joint activities such as a presence on the website, dedicated sessions during the DGBM annual conferences, and active collaboration with the DGBM Executive Board, with the aim of establishing representation for early-career researchers. A spokesperson is also to be elected from among those present at the meeting. This person will then also be responsible for maintaining and developing contact with the YSF of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB).
By “Young Scientists”, we (DGBM) mean PhD students and early-career researchers up to seven years after defending their PhD. Of course, those without a PhD are also very welcome!
We ask the working group leaders to forward this email to suitable members of their working group who may not be on the mailing list themselves. DGBM membership is not a mandatory requirement at this stage; however, we naturally expect active participation in the Society’s activities in the future.
We also warmly ask the working group leaders to actively support participation in the YSF kick-off meeting by granting time off and, where appropriate, covering travel expenses.
[...]
Kind regards,
Anke Bernstein – on behalf of the entire DGBM Executive Board
The YSF Team aims to encourage and support students in mastering future professional challenges and achieving their scientific goals. For this reason, every year as part of the DGBM Annual Meeting on YSF Day, young scientists are invited to give short presentations in which they can present and discuss their current research findings.
The best presentations have been/will be awarded prizes.
We look forward to your many exciting topics in the future and wish all applicants the best of luck!
Your YSF Team
